Invisible Conditions Alert Program
Utah’s Invisible Conditions Alert Program is a voluntary program designed to notify first responders concerning a person’s invisible condition that may directly impact their ability to communicate. As detailed in Utah Code 53-3-207 an Invisible Condition includes: “a communication impediment; hearing loss; blindness or visual impairment; autism spectrum disorder; drug allergy; Alzheimer’s disease or dementia; post-traumatic stress disorder; traumatic brain injury; schizophrenia; epilepsy; a developmental disability; Down syndrome; diabetes; a heart condition; or any other condition approved by the department.” If a client has an invisible condition as defined in this code and would like to participate in the program they may make the request and consent to having a release of their medical information by signing one or both of the Driver’s License Division and Division of Motor Vehicle’s invisible conditions forms. At this point the therapist will also sign the form confirming that the client has the said invisible condition and the request will be processed. Once processed a decal will be provided to the client that they may electively place on their driver’s license thus alerting first responders of the client’s invisible condition and it’s potential impact on their ability to communicate.
